Research Interests

Dr. Tara Vongpaisal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and principal investigator of the Child Development Laboratory at MacEwan University. Her research focuses on the perceptual and cognitive skills involved in children’s communication through speech and music. Ongoing research in her laboratory focuses on the effects of deafness and hearing restoration (via cochlear implantation) on children’s ability to learn about music and recognize familiar voices. Her research focuses on behavioural measures of children’s listening skills, but she also employs qualitative methods to describe outcomes in special populations. Her research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
