Alissa on bikeDr. Alissa Overend (Ph.D. University of Alberta, M.A. Queen’s University) has been a Faculty Lecturer at MacEwan University in the Department of Sociology since 2009. She teaches Introductory Sociology, Sociology of the Family, Social Problems, and soon, an Introduction to the Sociology of Health and Illness. She is currently revising her recently-defended dissertation—Candida and the Discursive Terms of Undefined Illness—as a book. Excerpts of this work have been published in Women’s Health & Urban Life (Forthcoming, December 2011), and Food, Culture & Society (Forthcoming, 2012). In both teaching and research, Dr. Overend finds her passions most in the sociology of health, illness, food, and the body; contemporary sociological and feminist theories; poststructural theories of subjectivity; and qualitative research methods.
