RECENT PRESENTATION ABSTRACT: November 3, 2014, 10-11am: City Centre Campus, 6-136: Recent international protests, such as the Arab Spring, Occupy, and the Euromaiden, have ignited discussion about a social media revolution. Will social media fundamentally transform citizen-government relations? Can social media address participation inequalities that exist between youth and older citizens? Are the effects of social media revolutionary? Dr. Boulianne will provide some insights into these questions using original survey data, qualitative interviews with youth and organizations, a content analysis of social media, and a meta-analysis of existing scholarship. Her research focuses on how social media affects youth’s engagement in political campaigns, volunteering, and protesting.
